Theme - anticipation of Christmas

Content - There are traditional elements to the words and music of this piece, which is ideal for young choirs to sing in the run up to Christmas. The first set of words (dating back to the 19th century) refers to the tradition of eating goose - and the need for charity - during this special season. The second set of words is an adaptation of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. A nice example of partner songs working well together, well suited to this age group.

Lyrics sample
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat!
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat.
If you haven’t got a penny a ha’penny will do.
If you haven’t got a ha’penny then God bless you!
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat!
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat.
Brightly shining Christmas star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Brightly shining Christmas star,
How I wonder what you are.
